Oncologic Endocrinology Fellowship
The Oncologic Endocrinology fellowship is a one-year program that accepts one fellow per year. Our program is the first in the nation to provide advanced training for the evaluation and treatment of endocrine neoplasia. Fellows will acquire the skills and knowledge base for evaluating and treating patients with complex endocrine tumors.
Faculty in Endocrine Neoplasia and Hormonal Disorders evaluate, manage and investigate a wide spectrum of tumors of the thyroid, adrenals, parathyroid, pituitary, pancreas and hereditary endocrine syndromes in both adults and children. The Endocrine Center has well-established collaborative relationships with head and neck surgery, surgical endocrinology, medical oncology, genetics, radiology and pathology. This unique concentration of expertise provides a training experience to develop future leaders in the field of endocrine neoplasia. Furthermore, trainees receive exceptional training in the management of hormonal disorders that are caused by tumors and cancer treatment and are unique to cancer patients.
The curriculum includes outpatient and inpatient management of patients with complicated endocrine neoplasia and hormonal disorders, including patients enrolled into Phase I, Phase II and Phase III clinical trials. Rotations with non-endocrine specialties such as surgery, pathology and radiology are offered.
Research activity is expected with opportunities to present at local, national or international meetings. Academic opportunities include routine conferences and the education of medical students, residents or fellows.
Meet Our Current Fellow
Alanoud Alaasmi, M.D., completed her Internal Medicine residency training at King Saud University in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, where she also served as a trainee representative within the Graduate Medical Education office, advocating for trainee education and professional development initiatives. She subsequently completed her Endocrinology Fellowship at University of Missouri–Columbia and served as Chief Fellow during her second year.
Dr. Alaasmi has received several awards recognizing her research contributions, including the Young Investigator Award from Women in Endocrinology, the Outstanding Abstract Award from the Endocrine Society, and the Outstanding Abstract Award from the American Thyroid Association.
She is excited to join our training program and looks forward to gaining experience in the care of patients with advanced endocrine neoplasia. Her interests include precision medicine approaches aimed at improving outcomes for patients with advanced thyroid cancer.

MD Anderson Cancer Center is committed to encouraging good health and staying true to our mission to end cancer. If you are applying for a GME fellowship or residency program starting on or after July 1, 2016, please be advised that MD Anderson will have instituted a tobacco-free hiring process as part of its efforts to achieve these goals. If you are offered an appointment, you will be subject to a Pre-Employment Drug Screen for tobacco compounds in compliance with applicable state laws. If you do not pass the urine drug screening which includes testing for tobacco compounds, you CANNOT be appointed at MD Anderson. Should you fail to meet this contingency, MD Anderson will withdraw your offer of appointment for the academic year. You may reapply for the following academic year, but there are no guarantees that you will be offered a position as many of our programs are already filled for several years out.
