Airway Management Fellowship
The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center offers a one-year Advanced Airway Management Fellowship for board-certified or board-eligible anesthesiologists. This program provides training in mastering advanced and invasive techniques. Fellows will gain expertise in airway management, algorithms, and guidelines, preparing them to enhance airway safety in clinical practice, teaching and research. Given that 25% of anesthesia-related deaths are due to airway management issues, this fellowship equips anesthesiologists with the skills to handle even the most difficult airways, ensuring they can serve as experts in routine and emergency settings.
Letter from the Program Director
The Advanced Airway Management Fellowship is a clinical practice-based teaching program that aims to provide future airway leaders with the capability to manage complex airway, including care planning, hand-on experiences with multiple techniques and airway crisis rescue ability. Our program offers a rich learning environment that is supported by experienced teaching faculty, research mentorship, statisticians, journal clubs and medical library staff support, all of which give our trainees abundant opportunities to build their expertise in airway-focused bedside assessment, imaging diagnosis technology and various endoscopic techniques. Our fellows are encouraged to participate in the departmental education program, including abstract presentation at the education events, lectures and case reports. We believe that today’s fellows will be the future leaders in patient care, clinical research and education.

MD Anderson Cancer Center is committed to encouraging good health and staying true to our mission to end cancer. If you are applying for a GME fellowship or residency program starting on or after July 1, 2016, please be advised that MD Anderson will have instituted a tobacco-free hiring process as part of its efforts to achieve these goals. If you are offered an appointment, you will be subject to a Pre-Employment Drug Screen for tobacco compounds in compliance with applicable state laws. If you do not pass the urine drug screening which includes testing for tobacco compounds, you CANNOT be appointed at MD Anderson. Should you fail to meet this contingency, MD Anderson will withdraw your offer of appointment for the academic year. You may reapply for the following academic year, but there are no guarantees that you will be offered a position as many of our programs are already filled for several years out.
