Selective Gynecologic Pathology Fellowship
The one-year Gynecologic Pathology Fellowship Program offers combined diagnostic training and research opportunities in gynecologic pathology, with an oncologic emphasis. The fellowship is accredited by the ACGME.
The department of Gynecologic Oncology has consistently ranked among the top three institutions for the management of gynecologic cancer. The Gynecologic Pathology section is responsible for approximately 5,800 cases per year, including 2,500 outside referrals, 2,000 biopsies, 200 outside consultations and 1,100 in-house surgical cases.
Clinical responsibilities include daily sign-out sessions with the gynecologic pathology staff. The sign-out sessions alternate between the inside service (frozen section, biopsies and surgical cases) and the outside service (referral and consultation cases).
The fellow participates with the staff in the preparation of cases discussed in the Gynecologic Oncology Planning Clinic and in the quality assurance program. Fellows have exposure to placental pathology and have dedicated elective rotations of their choosing. Research opportunities are numerous and range from clinicopathologic studies to basic research projects in molecular pathology. The training program is optimized to prepare fellows for both academic and private practice.

MD Anderson Cancer Center is committed to encouraging good health and staying true to our mission to end cancer. If you are applying for a GME fellowship or residency program starting on or after July 1, 2016, please be advised that MD Anderson will have instituted a tobacco-free hiring process as part of its efforts to achieve these goals. If you are offered an appointment, you will be subject to a Pre-Employment Drug Screen for tobacco compounds in compliance with applicable state laws. If you do not pass the urine drug screening which includes testing for tobacco compounds, you CANNOT be appointed at MD Anderson. Should you fail to meet this contingency, MD Anderson will withdraw your offer of appointment for the academic year. You may reapply for the following academic year, but there are no guarantees that you will be offered a position as many of our programs are already filled for several years out.
