Onco-Hospitalist Fellowship
The Onco-Hospitalist Fellowship is an academic training program designed to develop the skills necessary for a successful career as an Academic Oncology Hospitalist. The program begins on July 1 of each year. This is a one-year program of clinical and research training, with the possibility of extending for a second year of research. Fellows are expected to spend most of their time developing clinical and research experience that will enhance their academic careers.
Onco-hospitalist fellows rotate through the hospitalist service, inpatient oncology, palliative/supportive care, and inpatient subspecialties. Fellows are encouraged to pursue coursework in research methodology according to their research needs during the fellowship. Protected academic time will be provided for this effect. Fellows are expected to develop and master their clinical skills in the diagnosis and management of complex cancer patients and initiate and complete research projects arising from hypothesis-driven clinical issues. These research efforts should develop into publications and presentations in professional journals and conferences. A faculty mentor will be assigned and will meet with each fellow individually regularly, advise and guide them regarding their clinical progress and research projects. In addition, onco-hospitalist fellows will be expected to further develop skills in teaching and writing abstracts and grants.
Fellows will also participate and present at the Journal Club and Research Conferences and is expected to attend Institutional Grand Rounds, the Division of Internal Medicine’s bimonthly CME lectures, and other relevant institutional lectures or courses.
