Genetic Counseling Services

The Genetic Counseling Service at MD Anderson Cancer Center helps individuals and families understand and manage their inherited risk of cancer.

How we can help

The genetic counseling team offers the following services:

• Genetic Counseling: The program’s genetic counselors talk with patients about their personal and family health history and explain genetic testing options. If testing is recommended the genetic counselor will guide them through the testing process. Learn more about genetic counseling.
• Genetic Testing: When test results show an inherited risk, the program works with patients to understand how the test results may impact their health and their family. Counselors will also offer patients resources for family members who may also have this inherited risk. Read about genetic testing.
• Personalized Care Plans: For those with a hereditary cancer syndrome, or at high risk for cancer, the program provides tailored recommendations for cancer screening, prevention and early detection.
