HEB Campaign benefits MD Anderson programs
The 2021 campaign is raising funds to train tomorrow’s cancer experts
H-E-B is once again uniting grocery store customers across Texas in its sixth annual campaign to support MD Anderson. H-E-B, Central Market and Mi Tienda customers throughout the state have the opportunity to make $1, $3 or $5 donations at checkout or through the H-E-B mobile app. The campaign which supports MD Anderson’s mission to end cancer, runs through Tuesday, April 13.
“During these unprecedented times, we are reminded that our mission to end cancer does not take a break,” says Winell Herron, group vice president for Public Affairs, Diversity and Environmental Affairs at H-E-B and MD Anderson Cancer Center Board of Visitors member. “Along with our ongoing support, H-E-B is proud to invite our customers to join us in supporting MD Anderson’s unrelenting commitment to Making Cancer History®.”
The San Antonio-based H-E-B traditionally held this campaign in the fall, but it now occurs in the spring at 400 stores across Texas. Funds from the campaign benefit MD Anderson research, education and prevention initiatives, including the Partnership for Careers in Cancer Science and Medicine program. Donations made in the San Antonio area will be shared with UT Health San Antonio MD Anderson Cancer Center, a partner member of MD Anderson Cancer Network®.
“We are grateful to H-E-B for providing the opportunity for talented high school and college students from Houston, whose talent may be unrecognized, to do research at MD Anderson, a small event that can have an outsized positive impact on their lives,” says Elizabeth Travis, Ph.D., associate vice president for Faculty Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. “It is profoundly gratifying to watch these students develop and realize that what they only thought of as a dream can become a reality, thanks to H-E-B.”

- At the register, tell cashiers your preferred donation amount. (To comply with COVID-19 safety precautions, there are no tear-off donation slips this year.)
- Online via heb.com, select your donation amount at checkout.
- Through the H-E-B mobile app, select your donation amount at checkout.

Despite the ongoing challenges associated with the pandemic, this cause marketing campaign raised more than $200,000 last year, bringing the total donations by H-E-B customers to more than $1.2 million.
