Education Enrichment Classes

Enrichment classes offer patients the opportunity for further instruction and expression through art, music and physical movement.

Writers in the Schools (W.I.T.S.)

The Writers in the Schools program offers school-age children a unique experience with creative writing. Professional writers engage students in a variety of creative activities that encourage the expressive writing process. The W.I.T.S. program meets twice weekly throughout the school year and summer months.

Children’s Art Project (CAP)

The Children’s Art Project conducts art classes every week to promote creativity among pediatric patients and to give the children an opportunity to explore different forms of art. The children’s artwork may be selected for publication in the Children’s Art Project greeting card and gift collection.

Artful Happenings

Expressive art activities are offered throughout the week to all pediatric patients. Our onsite art teacher encourages the children to experience art by exploring many different artistic modalities. Children learn to express themselves through art while developing their individual styles and talents.

Music

A music therapist provides pediatric patients the opportunity for age appropriate music instruction. Projects focus on the individual needs of each patient with group activities as well as individual instruction.

Theater Under the Stars (TUTS)

This non-profit group enriches appreciation of the arts by teaching students about musical theater. With assistance from TUTS staff, students participate in monthly musical performances, which are held for parents and staff.

Get You Movin' (G.Y.M.) and Adolescent and Young Adult (AYA) Exercise

This exercise program is designed by a team of M. D. Anderson physical and occupational therapists to promote healthy exercise routines and habits among children, adolescents and young adults. The class meets three times a week throughout the school year and summer.

Mad Science of Houston

Mad Science of Houston offers a variety of opportunities for children to explore the elements of science through hands-on classroom projects that bring science to life. Mad Science of Houston will join us again this year to bring exciting science experiments to our classrooms.
