A Basic Science Research Approach to Understanding Cancer
The mission of the Department of Epigenetics and Molecular Carcinogenesis is to identify genetic and epigenetic changes that contribute to cancer development, as well as the environmental causes of those changes. As a basic science program, we make fundamental biological discoveries that serve as the foundation for the development of new translational and clinical applications for cancer prevention, diagnosis, and cure.
Our research is defining the molecular mechanisms that control cell proliferation, differentiation and survival as well as genome maintenance in order to identify the processes that drive carcinogenesis.
