Overview
The Decision Science Core Facility provides researchers with access to decision science expertise and state-of-the-art methods necessary to develop, evaluate, implement and disseminate shared decision making interventions to enhance the quality of cancer care decisions made by patients and their health care providers.
We provide technical expertise in decision science, shared decision making intervention design, decision aid production, user-centered design, risk communication, decision analysis, and dissemination and implementation science. Learn more about the Decision Science core.
Getting Started
Request a consultation by emailing Associate Director Viola Leal at DecisionScience@mdanderson.org or leaving a message at 713-792-5891.
Initial consultations usually consist of a brief meeting with the core directors to discuss the investigator's needs. A cost estimate and broad timeline are developed. If both parties agree, a start date is set and services are billed in iLab monthly.
Impact
The Decision Support Lab creates a range of tools to support patients and health care providers in medical decision making. We publish on the development, evaluation, and dissemination of our tools. Go to the About page for selected citations that reflect work done in specific cancers such as breast cancer, as well as cross-cutting themes such as financial toxicity and user centered design of decision support tools. Go to the Resources page to see examples of the tools created.
