Welcome to the Puduvalli Lab. Our team focuses on identifying and targeting new vulnerabilities in gliomas to overcome tumor heterogeneity and treatment resistance and to develop novel treatment approaches against gliomas. Current projects include targeting stress response, energy metabolism, epigenetic modulation and immune activation to disrupt glioma survival and treatment resistance through several collaborative research projects. Our lab leverages various biological approaches for development and testing of novel agents using a variety of cutting edge pre-clinical models with the goal of translation into future clinical trials.
Current Research in the Puduvalli Lab
Research in the Puduvalli Lab focuses on developing novel therapeutic approaches against brain tumors, through a combination of preclinical and translational approaches. The lab has expertise in testing and preclinical development of novel therapeutic agents that can potentially overcome tumor heterogeneity. Projects in the lab focus on tumor energy metabolism, protein processing, epigenetic modulation and targeting heat shock response. The lab utilizes a spectrum of conventional and cutting-edge techniques to conduct early testing, optimization, PDX animal model-based and novel ex-vivo human glioma tissue-based testing to identify the most promising agents to move to clinical trials. The lab also focuses on clinical correlative research with human tissue samples from clinical trials of therapies targeting gliomas to characterize treatment related changes and identify mechanisms of resistance to treatments.

Meet the Principal Investigator
Vinay K. Puduvalli, M.D.
Dr. Puduvalli is Professor and Chair of the department of Neuro-Oncology, Co-Director of the Brain Tumor Center, Co-Director of the Cancer Neuroscience Program, leader of the MD Anderson CCSG Brain Cancer Program and Co-Director of the MD Anderson NeuroHealth Initiative (NHI). Dr. Puduvalli is a physician scientist with basic, translational and clinical research interests which focus on developing new treatments for brain malignancies using targeted therapies, innovative clinical trial designs and rational combinations of anticancer agents.
His clinical expertise includes care of patients with brain and spine malignancies, as well as neurological complications of cancer. His laboratory research focuses on identifying vulnerabilities and resistance mechanisms in gliomas and targeting these with novel agents using a variety of pre-clinical models. His team has identified novel ways to target stress response and energy metabolism in gliomas to specifically target tumor cells. In a translational context, he has led several multicenter clinical studies involving epigenetic therapies and novel targeted agents.
He has also served as a mentor for students, residents, fellows and both junior and senior faculty over the past two decades. He has served in national and international collaborative projects in neuro-oncology and has been in several leadership roles in the Society for Neuro-oncology. He has also served on review boards and grant study sections for national and international grants and in advisory or consultancy roles with various patient advocacy, research and pharmaceutical partners.
