Oncofertility Clinic
Natural pregnancy can be possible after cancer treatment, but certain cancer treatments can make it difficult or impossible for some patients. MD Anderson’s Oncofertility Clinic help identify ways these patients may be able to have children.
The clinic sees both males and females, as well as pediatric patients. Patients can be seen:
- Immediately after diagnosis, before their treatment has begun
- During active treatment
- After treatment is complete
Possible interventions include established treatments like egg or embryo freezing, sperm banking, and freezing then reimplanting ovarian tissue. Experimental treatments, such as freezing then reimplanting testicular tissue, may also be recommended. Learn more about fertility after cancer.
Fertility preservation procedures are not performed at MD Anderson. The oncofertility team at MD Anderson can provide:
- Counseling on fertility risk
- A review of available fertility preservation options
- Collaboration and coordination between treating oncology and fertility teams
- Referrals to outside fertility clinics
- Information about fertility and grants to support family building (such as fertility treatments and adoption) that may be available
- Post-treatment fertility counseling and testing
Through a partnership with Texas Children’s Hospital, Oncofertility Clinic doctors may then perform fertility procedures at Texas Children’s Family Fertility Center. Patients can also be referred to other fertility clinics in the Houston area. Patients traveling to MD Anderson from outside the Houston area can get referrals to clinics closer to home.
