M. D. Anderson Teams Up with Saks Fifth Avenue to Fight Breast and Ovarian Cancer
Event kicks off four-day shopping spree
M. D. Anderson News Release 10/13/04

The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center and Saks Fifth Avenue are kicking off a four-day shopping spree to benefit breast and ovarian cancer research initiatives with the annual “Key to the Cure” fund-raising gala, Oct. 13 at Saks Fifth Avenue in the Galleria.

Saks Fifth Avenue will close its doors to the public for the celebration, themed “Ladies’ Night Out” (but men are welcome), while shoppers peruse the wares of a variety of trunk shows and participate in activities throughout the store such as makeovers, spa treatments and cosmetic specials. Guests also will enjoy food and libations from some of Houston’s top restaurants.

Leading fashion designers such as England’s Allegra Hicks, will make personal appearances, and fashion models will grace all three levels of the store, while shoppers enjoy the sounds of a variety of live music.

Raising money for the Nellie B. Connally Breast Cancer Fund and the Blanton-Davis Ovarian Cancer Program at M. D. Anderson, Saks Fifth Avenue will donate 2 percent of sales during the event, as well as for the next four days. Since 1997, Saks Fifth Avenue has raised close to $1 million for M. D. Anderson’s breast cancer research initiatives and approximately $60,000 since 2002 for ovarian cancer research.
