Research
The long-term vision of research at the Center for Botanicals and Cancer Prevention is to provide rigorous mechanism-based evidence supporting the chemopreventive potential of the botanicals ginger, pepper and tumeric in reducing overall incidence of colorectal cancers. This research includes:
- Botanicals promote chemoprevention of colorectal cancer by influencing stem and progenitor cell populations - Sushovan Guha, M.D., Ph.D., David G. Menter, Ph.D., and Raymond N. DuBois, M.D., Ph.D.
- Modulation of epigenetic instability by spice-derived botanicals for prevention of human colorectal cancer - Ajay Goel, Ph.D., and C. Richard Boland, M.D.
- Mechanism of action of spice-derived botanicals in prevention of human colorectal cancer - Bharat B.
Aggarwal, Ph.D., and Sunil Krishnan, M.D. - Safety and bioavailability of botanicals and their active principles in human subjects with colorectal cancer - Christopher R. Garrett, M.D., James L. Abbruzzese, M.D., and Mary Jane Johansen, Ph. D.
Four cores provide the specialized expertise needed for these projects: administration and leadership core; phytochemical and analytical core; biomarker core; and biostatistics and bioinformatics core.
