Join Our Lab
The Gardner Lab is within the Thoracic/Head and Neck Medical Oncology (THNMO) department and the James P. Allison Institute™ at UT MD Anderson, located on North Campus in the Clinical Research Building. The Gardner Lab began in March 2026 and is currently recruiting motivated undergraduate, Ph.D. track graduate students and postdoctoral fellows to join the team's efforts.
Undergraduate and Graduate Students
Graduate students usually enter through the UT MD Anderson UTHealth Houston Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences and should email Eric about upcoming rotation opportunities. Undergraduates who are interested in working in the lab should email Eric with their CV or resume, plus a summary of research interests, including any recent research experience(s). And if you don’t have any recent experience that’s totally fine! Ideally, we’d like at least one academic year of commitment from each student to help structure a formal undergraduate thesis or creative project.
Postdoctoral Fellows
Postdoctoral applicants with a recent Ph.D. in cancer biology, genetics, pharmacology and/or tumor immunology who are interested in the lab are encouraged to apply directly (UT MD Anderson careers website) or email Eric, attaching the following documents in an email:
- Cover letter detailing your career objectives, leadership experience and current research interests that will help guide your fellowship training
- CV with a selected publication list (max three pages)
- Names and contact information for three references
Environment
The Gardner Lab is looking to develop and inspire the next generation of trainees who are interested in understanding general aspects of cancer development and ways to better approach cancer treatment and early detection. While we focus on lung cancer, we collaborate broadly, sharing a team mindset and shared goals that unite various types of technical expertise to answer a given question. UT MD Anderson offers professional development opportunities and benefits. The Texas Medical Center houses UT MD Anderson and other tier 1 scientific institutions including Baylor College of Medicine, UT Health Science Center, Rice University, Methodist Research Institute and Texas A&M Institute of Biosciences and Technology. This depth of programs and core facilities creates a cutting-edge research environment.
It is the policy of UT MD Anderson to provide equal employment opportunity without regard to race, color, religion, age, national origin, sex, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity/expression, disability, protected veteran status, genetic information or any other basis protected by institutional policy or by federal, state or local laws unless such distinction is required by law.
