Research in the Ziyi Li Laboratory sits at the intersection of statistics, high-throughput biomedical data and oncology data science, and is motivated by the close interplay between pressing clinical questions and advances in computational biology. We develop statistical and computational methods for complex data generated from spatial omics, single-cell profiling and other multi-omics platforms, with a particular focus on multi-omics integration, 3D tissue reconstruction and cell-cell interaction analysis. More broadly, we are interested in creating adaptive and interpretable analytic frameworks that can extract biologically meaningful insights from complex tumor ecosystems and support precision oncology.
Meet Dr. Li
Dr. Li is an assistant professor of Biostatistics at UT MD Anderson, where she has been faculty since November 2020. She also holds adjunct appointments in Statistics at Rice University and Biostatistics at the UTHealth School of Public Health.
Her research focuses on developing practical statistical and computational tools for the analysis of genomic, multi-omics and electronic health record (EHR) data. In addition to methodological innovation, she actively engages in collaborative projects with biologists and physicians. Her past collaborative efforts have included studies on cancer, Alzheimer’s disease, autism, obesity and cardiovascular diseases. Research in the lab has been generously supported by the National Insitutes of Health (NIH), including funding from the National Institute of General Medical Sciencs (NIGMS R35GM159819), National Cancer Institute (NCI, U24CA274212 and U54CA274220) and other institutes.
Before joining UT MD Anderson, she received postdoctoral training in the lab of Prof. Hao Wu. She obtained her Ph.D. (2018) in biostatistics from Emory University under the guidance of Prof. Qi Long. Before that, she received her master’s degree (2014) in biostatistics from Yale School of Public Health and B.S. (2012) in statistics from the School of Mathematics Sciences at Peking University.
