World Cup Travel and Commute Information
Houston is a host city for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Seven World Cup matches will take place at NRG Stadium, renamed Houston Stadium for the duration of the World Cup, in June and July.
The safety of UT MD Anderson patients and families is a priority. While your care will not be impacted, we encourage you to plan ahead for appointments.
For those commuting into the Texas Medical Center (TMC) area, plan for more traffic for the duration of the tournament and an increased tourist presence across the city. During the FIFA Fan Festival and match days, several streets will be closed around NRG Stadium, the most notable of which is Kirby Drive. Please check the Houston TranStar traffic map before leaving for your appointment.
Patients who plan to travel to Houston for an upcoming appointment should book their hotels and flights as soon as possible. As a reminder, UT MD Anderson does not reserve rooms at hotels for our patients.
Our Social Work department has rooms reserved for patients who cannot afford their housing by contract, and there are many accommodations that only take cancer patients as guests. The Rotary House Hotel is a full-service hotel, dedicated exclusively to accommodating the needs of UT MD Anderson patients and their families while in Houston.
