Oncologic Audiology Fellowship
The Audiology Fellowship Program seeks to provide oncology specialized academic clinical training to fourth year interns in Audiology through supervised direct patient care, interdisciplinary observations and mentorship, clinical research experience and didactic teaching. The Audiology Fellowship will fulfill the requirements necessary to graduate from an Audiology doctoral (Au.D.) program and attain a Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology (CCC-A) by the American Speech Language Hearing Association (ASHA).
The Au.D. Fellowship supports our institutional mission to provide educational programs of the highest quality to enhance students’ skills and knowledge necessary for career success. The UT MD Anderson Au.D. Fellowship is a highly competitive training program with approximately 50 to 60 applicants per year.
Note: ASHA certification (CCC-A) is the national standard for professional credentialing of audiologists. The Au.D. fellowship is a supervised pre-doctoral clinical training mandatory for CCC-A designation.
Positions Offered
This fellowship program offers a one-year clinical rotation during which the Au.D. fellow receives interdisciplinary oncology education while providing evidence-based, state-of-the-art audiology diagnostic and treatment procedures to patients under the formal supervision of licensed, board-certified audiologists. The Au.D. Fellowship Program requires a contractual, full-time commitment of 1 year by the chosen candidate to provide clinical care to patients referred for audiological assessment and treatment. In addition, the AuD Fellow will develop and present a clinical research or educational project in a peer-reviewed forum by the end the fellowship year. AUD/Ph.D. candidates may fulfill their capstone requirement via a mentored NIH grant writing experience to submit an F32 application to PAR-25-250.
At the conclusion of the fellowship program, the fellow will demonstrate competency in the following areas for adult populations:
- Ototoxicity monitoring, including EHF and otoacoustic OAE testing

Selection Process
Candidate selection will be based on review and ranking of application packet and interviews by the Fellowship Application Committee comprised of the program director, associate director, chair or vice chair or faculty designee of the Department of Head and Neck Surgery, Education Committee and Audiology preceptors. The application packet includes a minimum of three letters of recommendation, CV, letter of intent and official graduate school transcript.
