Passion, focus, excellence
Ambassadors in our mission to end cancer
Several weeks before I began my two-year role as chair of the UT MD Anderson Board of Visitors (BOV) this past fall, I received a phone call from a dear friend. His daughter had just been diagnosed with cancer, and she lived more than 2,000 miles away. “Jim, what do you think?” he asked me. “Would it be worthwhile to get a second opinion at UT MD Anderson?”
My response was simple: “I know how important your daughter is to you.” He responded, “She’s everything to me.”
When you are facing a cancer diagnosis, there’s no place you would rather be than UT MD Anderson, an institution focused on excellence and consistently ranked as the nation’s No. 1 hospital for cancer care and a global leader in cancer research.
UT MD Anderson’s unwavering commitment to patients continues to fuel breakthroughs that transform lives. As BOV members, we are privileged to play a role in this institution’s critical mission to end cancer. Our focus remains on amplifying UT MD Anderson’s impact by raising vital funds, fostering connections and building awareness. Our combined efforts will expedite breakthroughs ignited by UT MD Anderson faculty; elevate the patient experience through UT MD Anderson’s world-renowned nurses and staff; and expand the reach of the institution’s excellence in cancer care, research, prevention and education. This extraordinary work that defines UT MD Anderson’s legacy of Making Cancer History® is only possible here.
During the past fiscal year, more than 86,000 donors have contributed more than $333 million. These gifts, large and small alike, will significantly impact cancer patients today, tomorrow and for generations to come. It is this collective support and shared determination that will drive us to achieve our mission to end cancer, once and for all.
