Kevin Fowler to Entertain at Polo on the Prairie 2008
M. D. Anderson Fundraiser a West Texas TraditionM. D. Anderson News Release 02/29/08
Co-chairs Melinda and Henry Musselman promise polo with a West Texas twist May 3 at the 22nd annual Polo on the Prairie event benefiting The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center.
The multigenerational event attracts amateur and world-ranked professional players each year to a pasture-turned-polo-field on the Musselman Brothers' Lazy 3 Ranch for a U.S. Polo Association-sanctioned tournament. It's a springtime tradition for families and friends who come to socialize on the sidelines, enjoy a down-home barbecue and crowd the dance floor under a tent as long as a football field. A fireworks show provides a spectacular finale.
Following this year's championship match, Amarillo native Kevin Fowler will provide the evening's entertainment with his "Southern country" mix of rock and country music, including favorites such as "Best Mistake I Ever Made," which hit No. 1 on the Texas Music Chart in February, from his CD "Bring It On" (Equity Records).
Polo on the Prairie has raised more than $3 million for key research and patient care programs at M. D. Anderson. Henry Musselman, an M. D. Anderson Board of Visitors member and polo enthusiast, and wife Melinda are indebted to the players, volunteers and spectators who support the event.
"We're grateful to the players, who donate their time, equipment and horses, and to everyone who works behind the scenes contributing financial and personal resources to the success of this event," said Henry Musselman. "Through their dedicated commitment over more than two decades, we're making a difference in the lives of the patients at M. D. Anderson and their families."
