Two postdoctoral positions are available in the laboratory of Kunal Rai, Ph.D., in Genomic Medicine at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. Our lab focuses on understanding the function of the epigenome in cancer progression. To define chromatin states associated with different stages of cancer progression, we employ various epigenomic technologies such as high-throughput ChIP-Sequencing, ATAC-Seq, Hi-C, Hi-ChIP, etc. in patient material. We plan to expand our efforts in understanding epigenomic and transcriptomic heterogeneity in tumors during immunotherapy response and metastatic progression using low cell number epigenomic and single-cell RNA-Seq based methods. To gain mechanistic insights, we also employ various functional approaches using CRISPR/Cas9 based tools in GEMM models, zebrafish and cancer cell lines to define mechanisms.
Position 1 is for a computational scientist who will focus on discovery of cancer-driving epigenome networks by applying computational methods for the analysis of epigenomic datasets and integration with complex high-dimensional omics datasets from tumor samples.
Position 2 is to study epigenetic mechanisms of tumor evolution using single-cell approaches and CRISPR based genome-wide editing approaches in multiple biological settings including immunotherapy response and metastatic progression.
We seek highly motivated individuals with a Ph.D. in an area of biology, mathematics or computational science. For position 1, candidate must have strong training in statistics and strong programming expertise, in particular R/Python and interest in the application of state-of-the-art computational/statistical methods to complex data. For position 2, we seek candidates with interest and experience in single-cell biology.
