Elena Fujiwara, Ph.D.
Research Scientist
Fujiwara is studying the role of a novel RAC1 mutation in resistance to cancer treatments. This RAC1 mutation appeared in a mutated BRAF papillary thyroid cancer tumor upon developing resistance to drugs targeting the mutated BRAF. She is also developing a more efficient, alternative method of floxing mice with CRISPR using a small artificial intron. It will be used to generate mice to study the function of a protein called BHC80, which seems important for maxillofacial development and stem cell microenvironment in other organs such as testis.
