Polymerase Chain Reaction Workshop

A Professional Continuing Education Event

Overview

This eight-hour workshop is designed for high school educators interested in gaining information on molecular techniques.

The workshop covers common molecular techniques used in clinical disease diagnosis. During the program you will attend both lectures and laboratory sessions focusing on the following areas:

  • DNA Extraction
  • Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR)
  • Gel Electrophoresis
  • Experimental Design and Resources

Program Objectives

Upon completion of this program, you will be able to:

  • Understand DNA extraction and PCR methodologies
  • Demonstrate the ability to perform molecular genetic techniques
  • Demonstrate the ability to perform molecular genetic techniques
  • Take advantage of resources designed to assist educators in incorporating molecular techniques into the student laboratory

Continuing Education Credit

The University of Texas M. D. Anderson School of Health Professions is approved to provide CPE credits for this workshop. Participants of the day long workshop will receive eight hours of CPE credits and a certification of completion. The level of instruction is beginner.
