G&D Research Achievement Award 

  • Deadline: August 31, 2011 
  • Amount: $200–$400
  • Eligibility: All G&D students

G&D Student Service Award 

  • Deadline: N/A 
  • Amount: $100 
  • Eligibility: All G&D students

G&D Retreat Poster and Platform Awards

  • Deadline: Annual Retreat 
  • Amount: $150–$300 
  • Eligibility: All G&D students

American Legion Auxiliary Fellowships 

  • Deadline: June 24, 2011 
  • Amount: $5,000; supplements student's GRA assistantship 
  • Eligibility: U.S. citizen
  • Notes: Research related to cancer, competitively renewable for up to three years

Cameron Foundation Fellowship 

  • Deadline: September 28, 2011 
  • Amount: $15,000 
  • Eligibility: Recently advanced to candidacy
  • Notes: Research related to cardiovascular or Alzheimer’s disease

City Federation of Women's Clubs Endowed Scholarship 

  • Deadline: September 16, 2011 
  • Amount: $2,500 
  • Eligibility: Students must soon take or have recently passed the candidacy exam
  • Notes: Application for 2011 must be for conducting research in the area of regulating functions of RNA

Floyd Haar, M.D., Endowed Memorial Research Award 

  • Deadline: July 22, 2011 
  • Amount: $1,500 
  • Eligibility: Research related to stem cells and human disease

Gigli Family Scholarship

  • Deadline: Contact Dr. Tom Goka for more information (Thomas.J.Goka@uth.tmc.edu)
  • Amount: $1,500
  • Eligibility: Pre- and post-candidacy
  • Notes: Intended particularly for those who are first generation in their family to enroll in graduate school

GSBS Travel Awards 

  • Deadline: Ongoing 
  • Amount: $350 (pre-candidacy) and $500 (post-candidacy)
  • Notes: Submit application at least four weeks before requested travel date. One travel award maximum per academic year. Applications available on GSBS website

Knudson Outstanding Dissertation Award 

  • Deadline: TBA 
  • Amount: $1,000 
  • Eligibility: Must be nominated by mentor

Lummis Fellowship in Biomedical Sciences 

  • Deadline: Contact Dr. Tom Goka for more information (Thomas.J.Goka@uth.tmc.edu) 
  • Amount: $25,000 
  • Eligibility: Post-candidacy with at least one year remaining to complete dissertation
  • Notes: Must be nominated by program

MD Anderson Trainee Recognition Day 

  • Deadline: Spring 2012, TBA 
  • Amount: TBA 
  • Eligibility: MD Anderson graduate student or other trainee
  • Notes: Platform and poster awards

Presidents’ Research Scholarship 

  • Deadline: TBA 
  • Amount: $5,000 
  • Eligibility: Advanced to candidacy

R.W. Butcher Achievement Award 

  • Deadline: September 19, 2011 
  • Amount: $3,000 
  • Eligibility: Pre- and post-candidacy
  • Notes: Achieved excellence in research and contributed to GSBS and society as a whole

Rosalie B. Hite Fellowships 

  • Deadline: Usually around March each year 
  • Amount: Full stipend 
  • Eligibility: Not advanced to Ph.D. candidacy at the time of application
  • Notes: Contact MD Anderson School of Health Professions for more info: 713-745-1205; competitively renewable for up to three years

S. Taub and B. Burton Endowed Fellowship in Vision Disease 

  • Deadline: TBA 
  • Amount: $2,000 
  • Eligibility: Post-candidacy prior to awarding of the scholarship
  • Notes: Research related to vision and vision disease

Schissler Foundation Fellowships in the Genetics of Human Disease 

  • Deadline: June 15, 2011 
  • Amount: Full stipend 
  • Eligibility: Recently advanced to candidacy, or within one semester of advancing
  • Notes: Research related to genetics of human diseases

Schissler Foundation MD Anderson Cancer Center Fellowship 

  • Deadline: June 17, 2011 
  • Amount: Full fellowship 
  • Eligibility: Student at MD Anderson; advanced to candidacy within the last academic year or be advanced to candidacy within one semester
  • Notes: Research directed towards a cure for some type of cancer

Sowell-Huggins Scholarship 

  • Deadline: October 28, 2011 
  • Amount: $5,000 
  • Eligibility: Advanced to candidacy, or will be advanced by December 2011
  • Notes: Research related to cancer

Sowell-Huggins Professorship and Graduate Fellowship 

  • Deadline: TBA 
  • Amount: Full stipend, renewable for up to three years
  • Eligibility: Advanced to candidacy
  • Notes: Joint application must be filed by the student and advisor

T.C. Hsu Memorial Endowed Scholarship 

  • Deadline: August 8, 2011 
  • Amount: $6,000 
  • Eligibility: Advanced to candidacy
  • Notes: Research related to genetics or cell biology

Tzu Chi Scholarship Award for Excellence 

  • Deadline: TBA 
  • Amount: $1,000 
  • Eligibility: Ph.D. student
  • Notes: Must demonstrate both excellence in academic achievement and persistent community involvement

William A. and Madelyn Welder Smith Foundation Fellowship

  • Amount: $5,000 
  • Eligibility: Taking Ph.D. candidacy exam during academic year the fellowship is being offered
