ESL (English as a Second Language)
Short Courses in Scientific English
Short Courses in Scientific English for Non-Native Speakers of English are available to all faculty, research and clinical personnel, graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and visiting scholars who are non-native speakers of English. The classes are designed to help employees of MD Anderson improve the communication skills needed in an English speaking, yet highly diverse, environment.
Courses last 7 weeks and meet twice a week for 1 or 1.5 hours each day. Classes are held in the morning, during the lunch hour, or late in the afternoon. All classes are free of charge. Participants must speak English at the intermediate or higher level and be familiar with research and general biomedical terminology.

Fall Conversation Course
Starting on Friday, October 7, an informal course for non-native speakers of English will be offered every Friday during lunch (12:00-1:00) in the Scientific Publications Department in Pickens Tower (FCT5000H). No registration is necessary, but space will be limited. Feel free to bring your lunch, and come and practice speaking in a relaxed environment.

Houston Metro provides municipal bus, van and light rail services throughout the greater Houston area.
Parking at MD Anderson
Parking Operations has identified the following discounted parking options in MD Anderson-owned facilities for MD Anderson trainees.
- Naomi Building: monthly rate, $20 (for students/trainees of that building, only)
- Smith Research Building (SRB) surface lot: monthly rate, $20
- Braeswood Garage: monthly rate, $85 or $60, depending on current stipend level
An off-peak rate of $33 per month may also be available in certain MD Anderson-owned facilities. Off-peak hours are 4:30 p.m. - 8:00 a.m. Monday through Friday, and all day Saturday and Sunday.
Please note that parking in these facilities is limited and may not be available indefinitely. Please also note that these rates will not be honored retroactively.
Note: All trainees with current contracts in the Braeswood Garage are already receiving discounted parking at the rate of $85 per month ($15 off the standard rate of $100 per month).
Some trainees may be eligible for a further reduction to $60 per month, based on their stipend levels. Trainees wishing to determine whether they are eligible for the rate of $60 per month must pick up a Trainee Parking Deduction Agreement in the department of Trainee and Alumni Affairs (FCT 7.5000) and present the agreement and a copy of his or her current appointment letter to the Parking Office (Pressler Garage, PGA4.2000). Please have your badge available when requesting the form.
MD Anderson Parking Office hours are 7:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
