MD Anderson Symptom Inventory (MDASI) modules augment the 19 core MDASI symptom and interference items with additional items identified as unique to a particular patient population. MDASI modules may be disease-specific, disease-site-specific, or treatment-specific.
The MDASI-BMT is a procedure-specific module. Along with the core MDASI’s 13 symptom items and 6 interference items, the MDASI-BMT also assesses 5 symptom items specific to bone marrow transplantation:
- feeling physically sick
- feeling weak
- diarrhea (loose stools)
- mouth sores
The MDASI-BMT is under development. It is available for licensing, but it has not been psychometrically validated.
- Purpose: To assess the severity of multiple symptoms related to bone marrow transplantation and the impact of these symptoms on daily functioning
- Population: Patients with symptoms caused by bone marrow transplantation
- Assessment areas: Severity of multiple symptoms and the impact of symptoms on daily functioning during the last 24 hours
- Method: Self-report; paper-and-pencil form or tablet PC (self-administered or via interview), or telephone-based interactive voice response (IVR) system
- Time required: Five minutes
- Scoring: Please see the MDASI User's Guide
- Reliability: Cronbach alpha reliability ranges from 0.88 to 0.91
