Volunteer Benefits

Although the highest rewards for volunteer service are both intangible and immeasurable, M. D. Anderson Cancer Center recognizes your time and work performance by extending the following benefits:

Parking

Daytime Volunteers

Free self-parking is provided in TMC Garage 10 for daytime volunteers, M-F, 8A-5P. You will receive detailed parking instructions at your preview orientation session.

Evening/Weekend Volunteers

Free self-parking is provided in TMC Garage 2 or Garage 10. You will receive detailed parking instructions at your preview orientation session.

Volunteers working at HMB, Rotary House or
Mays Clinic

You will receive specific parking information and procedures from your Volunteer Coordinator.

Bus Passes 

Discount (10%) on METRO bus passes available at the hospital cashier window.

Prescription Discounts 

Prescription discounts from the Central Pharmacy located on the first floor of the Main Building or the Outpatient Pharmacy located on the second floor of the Main Building, room R2.1854.

Free Annual Tuberculosis Screening and Free Flu Shots.

Free Cancer Screening 

Following six months of volunteering. Cancer screening is a complete assessment of cancer risk as determined by medical history information and physical examination of skin, head, neck, breasts, pelvic organs, genitalia, rectum, lymph nodes and extremities. Appointments may be scheduled by calling (713) 745-8040 to be seen at Cancer Prevention. The physical examination screening is free of charge. You will need to present your volunteer badge to the staff of Cancer Prevention in order to receive free cancer screening. However, if a recommendation is made for further evaluation such as mammography or PSA blood test, the volunteer is responsible for payment of fees relating to these items. Only the initial physical examination is free of charge.

Insurance Coverage 

Insurance coverage for any reasonable and/or necessary expenses for medical care resulting from an injury in the course and scope of volunteer activities, and which are not covered by the volunteer's own insurance, will be reimbursed up to the limit of the M. D. Anderson policy. Additionally, the Department of Volunteer Services provides insurance for Personal Injury Liability covering occurrences arising out of the performance of volunteer duties. Any incident involving a volunteer must be reported to the person's coordinator. An incident report will be filed and sent to Risk Management.
