The Mishra Laboratory, under the supervision of Dr. Lopa Mishra, focuses on developing effective therapeutics targeting liver and gastrointestinal cancers with a focus on the TGF-beta signaling pathway and stem-like tumor initiating cells (STICs).
We have identified a group of Liver and GI stem cell proteins crucial for TGF-beta signaling and modulation of human gastrointestinal cancers and, more recently, the Beckwith-Wiedemann Syndrome, a human stem cell cancer disorder through both mouse and human genetic studies.
The studies have yielded potentially powerful insights into the origins of lethal HCC, 40% of which are clonal and could arise from STICs, thus presenting key insights using the TGF-beta signaling to target subpopulations that could respond to treatment.
The Mishra Laboratory is part of the Department of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition, at MD Anderson Cancer Center. This website contains a summary of current research, contact information, a schedule of ongoing meetings and recent publications.
