orthopedic clinic photoThe Department of Orthopaedic Oncology at M. D. Anderson offers treatment for adults and children with musculoskeletal tumors. We evaluate many different types of disorders, including benign tumors, malignant tumors, bone tumors, soft tissue tumors, and metastatic lesions. We also manage orthopaedic problems in oncologic patients, who may require specialized, multidisciplinary care in a comprehensive cancer center. Such problems include fractures, trauma, arthritis, avascular necrosis, osteoporosis, and infections.

One of the main objectives of the Department of Orthopaedic Oncology is to provide state-of-the-art treatment of primary, malignant tumors. Osteosarcoma, Ewing's sarcoma, chondrosarcoma, chordoma, and soft tissue sarcomas are some of the diseases that we treat most often. Our goal is to maximize the function of each patient with advanced surgical and reconstructive techniques.

We have an active, ongoing research program to refine methods of limb salvage and preservation. We are an integral part of the Sarcoma Center, which offers a multidisciplinary approach to the treatment of sarcomas. Located on the ninth floor of the Clark Clinic Building, the Sarcoma Center enables medical oncologists, surgeons, radiation oncologists, and other specialists to see patients together and work closely with each other.

Through a combination of a multidisciplinary team approach, modern medical and surgical treatment, and basic and clinical research, we hope to provide the best possible care to our patients.
