The Needs of Our Patients Always Come First
Dermatologic surgery, or dermasurgery, is the surgical management of benign and malignant skin conditions. Among the surgical offerings is Mohs Micrographic Surgery, a highly specialized and effective technique for many skin cancers.
The Mohs & Dermasurgery Unit is a section of the Department of Dermatology, the first integrated Department of the University of Texas Health Sciences Center (UTHSC) and The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center. The unit is the primary center for Mohs Micrographic Surgery for both institutions.
Common, difficult and rare skin cancers are treated with a wide range of surgical and non-surgical modalities. In addition, other services (both diagnostic and therapeutic) are available, including biopsies, excisions, laser surgery and treatment of sun-damaged skin. Procedures that are not skin cancer-related also are provided at the Dermatology Clinic of UTHSC. Our Mohs surgeons are board-certified dermatologists who have had additional fellowship training or have extensive experience in the Mohs technique.
