Welcome
This web site is sponsored by the Bladder Cancer Support Team at M. D. Anderson Cancer Center. Our objective is to promote a better understanding and awareness of bladder cancer. We hope you find this site useful to you in your research.
Bladder Cancer is the fifth most common cancer in the United States
Almost 60,000 Americans now learn they have bladder cancer every year—and more than 12,000 die from the disease.
Unlike the more prevalent malignancies—breast, prostate, lung and colorectal—bladder cancer doesn’t have any celebrity survivors sharing their stories on TV or advising others to ask their doctors about the disease.
But there is a lot of encouraging news about bladder cancer, especially when it is detected early. In fact, the five-year survival rate approaches 95% when the disease is diagnosed and treated while in a localized stage.
Raising awareness about bladder cancer and improving its treatment through expanding translational research are important priorities at The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center, where teams of specialists provide the most advanced continuum of care available anywhere.
