Services Provided by Faculty Health
Confidential Consultations
Individual confidential consultations with any faculty member concerning:
- Stress
- Access to relevant resources
- Managing conflict
- Family concerns
Consultations can also be performed with teams or groups within a department or with the entire faculty.
Counseling
The Faculty Assistance Program offers three confidential sessions with an outside consultant. Family members are also eligible for the service. You may schedule your appointment directly with the consultant. For more information, visit the Faculty Assistance Program (M. D. Anderson intranet).
Decompression Sessions
At a department’s request, we will facilitate monthly or intermittent meetings with faculty to discuss difficult situations from the past month in order to make sense of them, integrate their effect and clear the way for the next month. The situations may concern clinical care, frustrations in research projects, loss of a colleague or interpersonal difficulties.
Educational Presentations
Educational presentations can be provided to your department on concerns you identify as relevant, e.g., techniques for stress reduction, conflict resolution, signs of depression or burn-out, balancing home and work, maintaining resilience and getting good sleep.
Interest Groups
Do you have any special interests? Share them with fellow faculty members. For more information, please visit Interest Groups.
Meditation Group
Dr. Alejandro Chaoul, mind-body intervention specialist at M. D. Anderson and a master teacher of meditation, leads a weekly group for faculty. Please note that the practices he teaches are not connected to any religion.
Narrative Sessions
At a department’s request, we will facilitate periodic meetings for faculty to write or tell stories – about disappointments, successes, challenging patients, turning points – in order to see patterns, formulate new questions to live with, discover personal values.
Presentations on Health and Well-Being for Departmental Retreats
Interactive programs or formal presentations of any length can be prepared for departmental retreats.
Special Events
Institution-wide programs are offered with speakers of national prominence on topics relevant to faculty health and well-being.
Please contact Katrina R. Allen with any questions, concerns or requests.
