There are more than 30 types of soft tissue sarcoma. They are all rare and require expert diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation for the best possible outcome. MD Anderson’s Sarcoma Center is the nation’s largest program for bone and soft tissue sarcomas, and our patients have an 80% five-year survival rate.
Successful sarcoma treatment begins with immediate and accurate diagnosis by a team of experts at a comprehensive cancer center, since most physicians rarely encounter these complex cancers. Our pathologists are dedicated solely to diagnosing sarcomas, working together with specialized imaging technicians to determine the location and extent of tumors.
As the nation’s foremost sarcoma experts, MD Anderson can offer innovative treatments with the goal of maintaining your physical function and quality of life. Available treatment options may include embolization for localized giant-cell tumors of bone, limb-sparing surgery to help save arms and legs, proton therapy and novel ways of delivering high doses of chemotherapy with fewer side effects.
Your treatment team also will include reconstructive surgeons, orthopedic surgeons and physical therapists to help support your life after cancer.
Types of cancers we treat:
- Osteosarcoma (bone cancer)
- Soft tissue sarcoma
- Ewing's Sarcoma
- Chordoma
- Malignant fibrous histiocytoma
Without MD Anderson, I wouldn't even be alive today.
