MD Anderson MBA/MHA Summer Internship
The MD Anderson Cancer Center MBA/MHA Summer Internship offers local students the chance to gain hands-on experience at a world-renowned academic medical center. This 12-week, full-time internship provides valuable mentoring and training within the healthcare sector.
Designed as an experiential learning opportunity, the internship allows students to apply the theoretical knowledge gained in the classroom to real-world situations. Interns will develop practical skills while navigating the complexities and dynamic nature of the rapidly evolving healthcare industry.
Throughout the program, students will gain insights into MD Anderson's organizational structure, core philosophy, values, and mission. Students will work on impactful projects that align with both the institution’s strategic goals and their personal interests.

Learning Objectives
Interns will learn about the interrelations of the medical center components in an environment that supports and encourages learning. The educational objectives include:
- Provide hands-on and real‐world experiences by conducting a 11-week project under the mentorship of a professional with relevant and related background in the field.
- Introduce and develop an understanding of the common values shared by all health care professionals at MD Anderson.
- Introduce to the complex organizational dynamics through a combination of shadowing and integration in the day-to-day activities of a team while also leading their assigned project.
Internship Activities
- Integration with Teams: Interns will be fully integrated into their teams, participating in day-to-day operations while also leading an individual project.
- Project Contributions: Interns will be given the responsibility to contribute meaningfully to their teams, with each project designed to offer valuable learning opportunities.
- Shadowing Mentors: Interns will spend time shadowing mentors, gaining valuable insight into the decision-making processes and daily challenges faced by professionals in the healthcare sector.
- Networking Opportunities: Interns will engage in networking events, attend seminars, and meet MD Anderson’s leadership

Applicants must be currently enrolled in an MBA or MHA program at one of the following local universities and have completed the first year of their program (summer term after the first year of a two-year program)

Dates & Work Schedule
The Summer 2025 program will begin on May 27, 2025 and will end on August 15, 2025.

Interns will work 40 hours per week for the duration of the 12-week program. Final work hours and location (hybrid, remote or onsite) will be determined based on the needs of the project and the department. Interns will not be paid for missed days.
Stipend
A stipend of $17 per hour. For a full time 12-week program, students will receive approximately $8,000 stipend minus taxes. Paychecks are issued bi-weekly, on the 5th and 20th of each month, with federal taxes deducted. Interns will not be paid for missed days.

Program Dates
I have obligations to my school which may prevent me from starting on time or requiring me to depart the program early. What should I do?
Please discuss this with your mentor/project lead during the interview process. Most projects require trainees to be present for the full 12 weeks and offer limited flexibility. If exceptions are made, please note that your pay will be prorated to reflect any days not worked. We are unable to accommodate requests to start before May 27th or finish after August 31, 2025.
What is the application period?
Applications will be collected from January 27, 2025 through February 27, 2025. All application materials, including letters of recommendation, are due by 11:59pm CST on February 27, 2025. Incomplete applications will not be considered. We realize that letters of recommendation can be difficult to secure so please carefully monitor the status of your letters, which will be submitted directly by your referees in the application portal, and prompt your referees as needed to ensure they are submitted before the deadline.

What are the application requirements?
In addition to providing personal information, all applicants must upload their official transcripts, CV or resume, a statement of interest(s), and two letters of recommendation to be uploaded by your referees AND complete the project ranking form. Please carefully monitor recommendation letters to ensure that they are submitted before the deadline. Incomplete applications will be purged.
When will I find out if I have been accepted? Notifications will be sent by March 30th and trainees will have until April 20th to accept the offer and complete final pre-employment paperwork.
I am still waiting to hear back from another program that I applied to, can I get an extension to respond to my MD Anderson offer? Unfortunately, not as we are working with a tight timeline to process summer appointments. Applicants are encouraged to decide which program is more important. Please do not accept an offer from our program if you know you will accept another pending offer.
Schedule
How many hours per week are students expected to work during the summer program?
Forty (40) hours per week, hours are flexible based on department/project requirements.
Will I need to use a time clock?
No. The timekeeper will keep record of all trainee time via a computer-based system, and all time cards will be submitted each week. Summer trainees will not be paid for missed days.
Will I receive overtime if I work evenings or on weekends?
Trainees will not receive overtime pay for working late or weekends and are free to work after business hours if permission is granted from the mentor/project lead.
Is it okay if I work part-time or take some classes during my summer fellowship?
We do not recommend that trainees take concurrent courses or engage in other employment while participating in the summer training program.
Pay and Benefits
How much will I be paid?
All trainees will receive $17/hour. For a full-time 12 -week program, students will receive stipend minus applicable taxes. The amount deducted in taxed depends on the designated allowances on the federal tax form completed by the student during the onboarding process.
Aside from my stipend, will I receive any additional financial support?
No additional financial support will be provided.
Since Independence Day occurs during the summer program, will I receive holiday pay?
No. If a holiday occurs on a work day, the campus will be closed, you will not work nor receive pay for that day.
In addition to my stipend, will I receive a parking allowance or parking reimbursement?
No. Trainees are responsible for covering the cost of their transportation and parking. Parking on campus can be secured for a nominal fee. Following orientation, trainees will be provided with information on how to sign up for a parking permit.
Will I receive health insurance while employed as a summer trainee?
No. Because this is a short-term employment, Trainees are not benefits eligible. Summer students will not receive any type of health insurance (medical, dental, etc.), retirement benefits, life insurance, paid time off, or reimbursement for parking, transportation, or moving expenses.
Housing
Is housing available?
Housing is not provided; the trainee is responsible for obtaining their own housing for the duration of the program.
