Center for Reconstructive Surgery
Although the primary goal of cancer treatment is to cure cancer, such treatment can sometimes lead to a loss of function or a deformity. For most cancer patients, survival with a poor quality of life is not acceptable. The Center for Reconstructive Surgery at MD Anderson specializes in reconstructive surgery to correct deformities and to restore normal function after cancer-related treatments.
Since 1988, we have worked to enhance the quality of life for cancer patients with a multidisciplinary approach that has made MD Anderson famous. Our clinical faculty is expert in state-of-the-art microvascular surgical techniques to achieve the best possible outcomes. In most cases, reconstruction is performed immediately after the tumor has been removed.
The Center for Reconstructive Surgery provides comprehensive consultation, and follows patients with digital imaging and a computerized database.
Our services include:
- Pre-surgery consultation and evaluation
- General plastic surgery reconstruction
- Reconstructive surgery of defects in the head, neck, breast, torso and extremities
- Complex microsurgery reconstruction
- Reconstruction for melanoma and skin cancer patients
