Hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC), or “heated chemoptherapy,” is a surgical procedure being performed for the first time on pediatric patients diagnosed with desmoplastic small round cell tumor (DSRCT) at 
MD Anderson Children’s Cancer Hospital. 

Andrea Hayes-Jordan, M.D., assistant professor at MD Anderson is the only surgeon in country performing this surgery on children with this rare cancer, describes the procedure.
