New Project Development

The Biostatistics and Bioinformatics Core acts as the central channel for reviewing all proposals submitted to the Partnership. All matched co-leaders interested in submitting a proposal for a review deadline must submit a one- to two-page abstract, with input from both co-leaders, to the Administrative Core contacts. The Administrative Core will then forward your abstract on to the Biostatistics and Bioinformatics Core for review.

In preparation for submitting a proposal, the Core offers assistance in:

  • Facilitating initial discussions between the matched collaborators
  • Reviewing proposed research for:
    • Compliance with Partnership Program Guidelines
    • Availability and accessibility of appropriate populations/specimens
    • Appropriate sample sizes, methodology and time frames
    • Feasibility
    • Inclusion of appropriate collaborators

To be considered for a project award, applications must:

  • Demonstrate scientific merit
  • Address cancer disparities in ethnic minority populations
  • Have the potential to become a competitive grant through traditional mechanisms
  • Be related to cancer research in the basic, clinical, translational, epidemiological or behavioral areas or improve the effectiveness of cancer-related training and career development
  • Utilize adequate methodology
  • Enhance the effectiveness of the Partnership

Research conducted primarily at the University of Puerto Rico may be in any area of cancer research. Research conducted primarily at MD Anderson must specifically address areas of cancer disparities in minority populations.
