Financial Support

Basic Financial Support for All GSBS Ph.D. Students

All Ph.D. students at M. D. Anderson who were admitted through The University of Texas Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences (GSBS) receive paid tuition, health insurance coverage and a regular stipend to support living expenses throughout their graduate training period. For the 2008-2009 academic year the annual stipend level will be $26,000. Unlike student loans, this support does not need to be repaid after graduation. Further details on stipends and benefits can be found on the GSBS Web site.

Awards and Scholarships

In addition to this baseline support, Ph.D. students at M. D. Anderson are eligible to compete for a number of educational awards and scholarships that provide additional financial aid. Information about some of the available awards can be found at the GSBS awards page

Cost of Living

Compared to many other areas of the country, the cost of living in Houston is significantly lower. This means that the stipend dollars provided to our students will go farther toward supporting the costs of housing, food and other living expenses.
