Funding Opportunities

The American Federation for Medical Research Foundation was established in 1989 to foster medical research and support programs aimed at developing the careers of physician scientists. The Foundation collaborates with other organizations to fund special research award programs, promote initiatives that enrich the education of research trainees and honor outstanding achievements in the biomedical research community. Deadlines for award applications are in January of award year.

General Eligibility

To qualify for consideration of an award, applicants must be AFMR members in good standing. If you are not currently an AFMR member, you must submit a membership application along with the award application. Award applications are available now.

Aventis and Novartis UICC Translational Cancer Research Fellowships (TCRF)fund 12 month long research projects designed to enhance the translation of basic, experimental, and applied research insights into their clinical or population applications in the form of new drugs and treatments, and of vaccines and other effective prevention or intervention strategies. Candidates and hosts, each from a different country, should be experienced scientists or clinicians and willing to enter into an enduring collaboration. (Funded by AstraZeneca UK, Ltd., Aventis Pharma Recherche-Développement, and Novartis).

The Andrew Seligson Memorial Clinical Fellows Program
A new fellowship in molecular oncology offered by the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory.

UICC International Cancer Technology Transfer Fellowships (ICRETT) fund one- to three-month long research or clinical projects, with UICC stipend support for one month, for appropriately qualified investigators or experienced clinicians to teach or acquire up-to-date research techniques, advanced clinical management, diagnostic and therapeutic skills, and transfer appropriate technology. (Funded by a group of North American, European and Australian sponsors, the Association of UICC Fellows and the UICC Roll of Honour).
