CCSG Administration
The goal of the Cancer Center Support Grant (CCSG) Administration is to enhance collaborative research and accelerate the translation of research between the laboratory and clinic for the benefit of cancer patients. This is achieved through oversight of the CCSG and its processes, facilitation of strategic planning and evaluation, promotion and administrative management of multidisciplinary research collaborations, efficient financial operations and administrative oversight of shared resources. MD Anderson currently has 1,099 CCSG program members across nine thematic research programs.
CCSG Administration manages CCSG research program membership, data collection and validation, competitive renewal and annual report processing, and strategic planning and facilitates intra-programmatic, inter-programmatic and inter-institutional collaborations.
Leadership:
- Shreya Kanodia, Ph.D., Deputy Director, Administration
- Dorothy Graves, Ph.D., Executive Director of Administration
- Grizelda Bouchard, M.B.A., Director of Finance and Administration
- Kristina Herbert, Ph.D., Director of Grant Development and Program Management
CCSG Administration is composed of three teams
- The Data and Decision Support team gathers and maintains data on all CCSG members including faculty appointments, extramural funding, clinical trials, publications and shared resource utilization. These data are essential for reporting CCSG metrics to the National Cancer Institute and determining the health of MD Anderson’s research programs and shared resources.
- The Administration and Finance team manages the CCSG budget, the CCSG and extramural research development (ERD) departmental budget, shared resource finances, and post-award management for all CCSG supplements and Cancer Prevention & Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT) grants awarded to MD Anderson. The team executes all financial activities, including (but not limited to) budget development, account maintenance and oversight, billing/invoicing, accounts receivable, reconciliation, ordering of shared resource capital equipment, and monthly financial reporting for CCSG-funded and institutional shared resources. Shared resources have the option of meeting with the finance team on a monthly basis to review finances.
- The Multi-Project Grant Development team (MPGDT) was established to maintain MD Anderson as a leader in funded team science by providing professional grant development support. The MPGDT includes three scientific writers and two illustrators. Team members work with investigators to develop, plan, evaluate and submit strategic and collaborative science that enhances CCSG research programs. Specifically, the MPGDT:
- provides project management support, thus alleviating administrative burden on investigators
- provides support for grant writing, review and editing
- provides central grant development support that benefits from the experience gained from all submissions supported
- works closely with grant administrative staff who prepare budgets and coordinate submission to sponsor
- provides high-quality research graphics that enhance communication of complex science, assuring that all graphics meet publication standards
- curates internal and external webpages to provide researchers with helpful grant-related resources
Note: MPGDT’s primary objective is to secure funding for large team science proposals. The illustrators also generously support investigators with other requests, as time allows. Projects related to the multi-project grants the team has supported or will support are prioritized. We ask for at least two weeks' turnaround time for any non-grant-related requests for illustration support. Email Kristina Herbert to learn more.
