MD Anderson’s Making Cancer History® Seminar returns to Palm Beach
Public invited to learn about Moon Shots Program, institution’s accelerated assault on cancer

The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center will share novel research findings, cancer prevention tips and advances driven by the institution’s Moon Shots Program at an educational event in Palm Beach, Feb. 20 at The Colony Hotel, 155 Hammon Ave.
Doors open for the Making Cancer History® Seminar, in the hotel’s Pavilion, at 8:30 a.m. with a breakfast buffet. The program follows at 9 a.m., with presentations by:
- Ronald DePinho, M.D., MD Anderson’s president who launched the cancer Moon Shots Program
- Jim Allison, Ph.D., chair, Immunology, and Lasker Award recipient for groundbreaking research in immunotherapy
- Joxel Garcia, M.D., executive director, Cancer Prevention and Control Platform, and former U.S. Assistant Secretary of Health
- Kelly Hunt, M.D., professor, Surgical Oncology; chair ad interim, Breast Surgical Oncology; and pioneer in breast surgical care
The popular Saturday morning format, returning for the 11th year in the Palm Beach area, concludes at 11 a.m. following a brief a question-and-answer session.

More than 1 million people have sought care at MD Anderson since the institution opened in 1944, including approximately 27,750 Florida residents. More than 6,000 of these patients have been from Palm Beach, Miami-Dade and Broward counties. In Fiscal Year 2015 (Sept. 1, 2014-Aug. 31, 2015), some 400 new patients came from the Palm Beach area.
