MD Anderson heads to El Paso for End Cancer Night at Chihuahuas game, educational seminar

A double-header of cancer prevention and Chihuahuas baseball is in store for El Pasoans as experts from The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center head west for End Cancer Night at Southwest University Park, 1 Ballpark Plaza on Tuesday, May 31.
End Cancer Night will kick off a celebration of survivorship, which includes MD Anderson’s educational seminar on June 1 and National Cancer Survivors Day on June 5. All activities honor those living with, through and beyond cancer.
Since opening in 1944, more than 1 million people have turned to MD Anderson for cancer care, including more than 6,700 El Pasoans.
“Our mission is to end cancer in Texas, the nation and world,” said Ronald DePinho, M.D., president of MD Anderson. “We are extremely grateful to the Chihuahuas for hosting End Cancer Night at the ballpark. This event allows us to increase cancer awareness, share the importance of prevention and celebrate cancer survivors and their loved ones.”
Dr. DePinho will throw out the first pitch, symbolizing MD Anderson’s efforts to “strike out” cancer for good.
MD Anderson’s signature Making Cancer History® Seminar will be held Wednesday, June 1, at the Doubletree by Hilton El Paso Downtown, 600 N. El Paso St. The seminar, free and open to the public, will begin at 8 a.m. with a breakfast buffet. Presentations start at 8:30 a.m. with a brief question-and-answer session immediately after.
MD Anderson’s Joxel Garcia, M.D., and Michael Wang, M.D. will join, Dr. DePinho to share the latest in cancer prevention and research, including breakthroughs made possible through the Moon Shots Program, the institution’s comprehensive effort to rapidly reduce cancer deaths and transform care. Dr. Garcia is executive director of the program’s cancer prevention and control platform, and Dr. Wang is co-director of the B-cell Lymphoma Moon Shot.
