Run/Walk and Sprint for Sprouts Set for May 4
Event Raises Funds for Ovarian Cancer Research at MD Anderson
MD Anderson News Release 04-10-13
The starting gun will pop on Saturday, May 4, for the 16th annual Sprint for Life 5K Run/Walk and Sprint for Sprouts Kids’ Run, benefiting the Blanton-Davis Ovarian Cancer Research Program at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center.
The 5K Run/Walk begins at 7:30 a.m. followed by the Sprint for Sprouts non-competitive races for children 12 years and younger at 9:20 a.m.
The start and finish lines for the races will be adjacent to MD Anderson Cancer Center’s Mays Clinic, at the corner of Bertner Ave. and Holcombe Blvd.
The post-race party and children’s races will be held for the first time in the open green area known as The Prairie, the “front yard” of the Mays Clinic. A favorite walking area for MD Anderson employees, The Prairie’s new spring flowers and grasses offer an ideal setting for the Sprint for Sprouts.
For those who want to support ovarian cancer research at MD Anderson but cannot participate in the event, Sprinting in Spirit is a way to take part. Sprinters in Spirit will receive a t-shirt and other items and will have their names posted on a “Spirit Board” at the race.
Online registration for the event is available through May 1.

Honorary co-chairs are Kelli Blanton and Eddy Scurlock Blanton, Sr., Lee Davis and Gayle Goodman.
For the first time, Sprint for Life welcomes Luke’s Locker as an in-kind sponsor, providing race direction and support.
Since its start in 1998, Sprint for Life has raised more than $3.6 million for the Blanton-Davis Cancer Research Program at MD Anderson.
