Pathology Summer Research Program
This Pathololgy Summer Research Program is geared towards an outstanding college student interested in exploring a career in cancer medicine.
Students in this program learn about cancer research and diagnosis of rare tumors. They work on a project with an assigned mentor who investigates a rare breast carcinoma, studying the clinical, pathologic and molecular signature of a subtype of metaplastic breast carcinoma.
The program includes hands-on research experience mentored by faculty members in a laboratory setting as well as participation in lectures and workshops offered by the MD Anderson Summer Experience program. Students also have the opportunity to present research findings to peers and faculty.
Application Link
Apply now for the 2021 Pathology Summer Research Program, which runs from June 14-Aug. 27.
Learning Objectives
Learning objectives include the ability to research a topic related to breast cancer, learn basic histomorphology, histopathology, and molecular pathology used to evaluate a specific subtype of triple negative metaplastic breast cancer. Students in this program also will learn how to interpret data, compare results and synthesize information to construct an abstract to demonstrate knowledge. Lastly, students will develop presentation skills and present findings to faculty and peers.
