Undergraduate Clinical & Administration Shadowing
NOTICE: Due to COVID-19, we will not be accepting applications for Summer 2023. Please continue to check back for updates.
The clinical and research shadowing is for undergraduate students potentially interested in a career in medicine. Students will be matched with one of the clinical faculty in one of the Houston Area Locations who will allow the student to shadow him or her for up to five consecutive days. This will be a ‘hands-in-pocket’ (watch and listen) experience in surgery, radiation oncology, medical oncology, or radiology. Students will not accompany the surgeons to the operating theater.
Clinical Shadowing: Applicants participating in clinical shadowing will be paired with a faculty who has a project on which she or he can work. Those interested in hospital administration will be allowed to shadow the onsite administrators or one of the directors. The duration of the student’s stay will be determined by whether or not a research project has been assigned.
A clinical shadow assignment will last five days with the opportunity to follow a couple of specialties. Sponsoring physicians will be encouraged to talk to the students about the process of becoming a physician. The students whose sponsor has a project will be allowed participate in the clinical research for 30 or more days, depending on the scope of project.
Clinical Research: Clinical research students will be paired with clinicians who have research projects. Those whose research projects are selected must file an application through their college's program for vetting.
