Dealing with cancer is a difficult journey, but add mental illness or depression and the path becomes more like a ditch. To make matters worse, because of the stigma, people are afraid to seek help. There are mentally ill people who develop cancer and those who develop mental illness because of the stress associated with cancer. Alan Valentine, M.D., professor in the Department of Psychiatry at MD Anderson Cancer Center, discusses issues related to psycho-oncology.
