MDAPET Human Camera

With the long-term goal of reducing the cost of commercial PET cameras while improving their resolution, a prototype PET camera (MDAPET) was developed. This camera introduced two new concepts:

  • Photomultiplier-Quadrant-Sharing detector design
  • Variable-geometry gantry configuration for optimal imaging of both smaller objects such as the brain, breast or animal, and larger ones such as the whole body

While maximizing performance and image quality, MDAPET still manages to have lower production costs than the current BGO (Bismuth Germanate) PET. See MDAPET specifications and brain scan images.
