PQS-PET Detector Design
A PET camera based on PQS technique can be consists of flat detector panels or detector rings. Since in PQS technique a quarter of each PMT is used for each block, larger PMT can be used to decode crystal positions and thus reduces the cost of PET system by using fewer PMTs or smaller crystals can be used to improve the spatial resolution (using the same PMT sizes that are used in standard decoding techniques).
For detector panels that are made up of square blocks, at the edge of the detector module half of the PMT's sensitive window remains unused and an undetected region is created. To minimize the unused portion of the PMTs and maintaining the low cost and high sensitivity of PET camera we have developed asymmetric (extended) blocks. The asymmetric (extended) blocks can extend the effective area thus may increases the field-of-view, the detection sensitivity and image quality.
