Pasqualini Wins Prestigious International Award
Renata Pasqualini, Ph.D., professor of Genitourinary Medical Oncology, is the 2011 recipient of the Sergio Lombroso Award in Cancer Research.
The prestigious international award, given by the Sergio Lombroso Trust and the Weizmann Institute of Science, will be presented to Pasqualini on Monday, June 27, at the Weizmann Institute in Rehovot, Israel.
The Lombroso Award, which comes with a $20,000 personal prize, is given once in two years to an internationally distinguished scientist, medical researcher or physician who has made highly significant contributions to the understanding of the causes and mechanisms of cancer or to its diagnostics and therapy.
Pasqualini joins a distinguished list of past recipients:

- Steven Rosenberg, M.D., Ph.D., National Cancer Institute (2006-2007)
- Tony Hunter, Ph.D., The Salk Institute (2002-2003)

- Ron Prywes, Ph.D., Columbia University (1998-1999)
The Weizmann Institute of Science is one of the world's leading multidisciplinary research institutions. The award is given through the estate of Sergio Lombroso, a lawyer of Verona, Italy who died in 1988. The award honors Lombroso's wish to advance the fight against cancer by supporting research and medical efforts of the highest level throughout the world.
