The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center has received more than $9 million in research grants in the latest round of funding from the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT). The grants were announced Wednesday, May 20. Full details can be found here.
The awards will fund studies in colorectal cancer, head and neck cancers and precision oncology decision support.
The CPRIT grants to MD Anderson include:
- Precision Oncology Decision Support Core – $5,999,996
- Alliance for Colorectal Cancer Testing (ACT) in Southeast Texas – $2,588,774
- Media-Rich Mobile Dissemination of a Dysphagia Prevention Program for Head and Neck Cancer Patients during Radiation – $1,263,342
CPRIT was established in 2007 after Texas voters approved a constitutional amendment that authorized the state to fund cancer research and prevention programs. Beginning operations in 2009, CPRIT has to date awarded more than $1 billion in grants to Texas researchers, institutions, non-profits and private enterprises. Programs made possible with CPRIT funding have reached every corner of the state, brought more than 80 distinguished researchers to Texas, advanced scientific and clinical knowledge, and provided more than 2 million life-saving education, training, prevention and early-detection services to Texans.
