MD Anderson experts to discuss Moon Shots Program, historic initiative to conquer cancer

The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center plans its 15th annual Making Cancer History® Seminar in Aspen, 1-3 p.m. July 16. The free event is at Aspen Meadows Resort’s Paepcke Auditorium, 1000 N. Third St. Seating is limited. See registration information below.
This year’s seminar focuses on the institution’s Moon Shots Program, an accelerated effort to convert discoveries into clinical advances that will dramatically reduce cancer deaths. This comprehensive assault initially focuses on eight cancers: acute myeloid leukemia/myelodysplastic syndrome, chronic lymphocytic leukemia, melanoma, lung cancer, prostate cancer, and triple-negative breast and ovarian cancers. Moon shot teams will pursue innovative projects prioritized for greatest patient impact, while specialized scientific and technical platforms will provide infrastructure and expertise. The goal is to apply knowledge gained from this process to all cancers.
Seminar presentations will feature:
- Ronald DePinho, M.D., president of MD Anderson;
- Samir Hanash, Ph.D., M.D., on the program’s early detection efforts;
- Timothy Thompson, Ph.D., on the prostate cancer moon shot; and
- Anil Sood, M.D., on the breast and ovarian cancer moon shot.
